Phoenix police: Suspects shoot, chase man on foot

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Police say a man is in critical condition after he was chased on foot and shot by suspects in north Phoenix.

According to Phoenix police, the victim was approached by three suspects, two of them armed, in the parking lot of a convenience store near 27th Avenue and Indian School Road early Tuesday morning.

Police say an altercation between the victim and suspect occurred in the parking lot and continued into the store.

Gustavo Gomez was across the street and said he heard the whole thing.

"Outside at the 7-Eleven after that, the guy shot one time into the 7-Eleven," he said. "The people started running and he shot two times into the 7-Eleven."

One shot was fired inside the store as the victim ran away on foot. Two of the suspects chased the victim, while firing shots at him.

The victim was struck by gunshots and the suspects left the area in a blue SUV and headed northbound on 27th Avenue.

"The guy, he tried to kill him and he ran into the Karita and he fired shots," Gomez said.

The victim was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Police say they are not aware of any relationship between the victim and suspects.

Although unnerving, those who work in the area say it's not entirely shocking.

"I see a lot of stuff here, crazy this area," Gomez said.
