Phoenix to honor city workers who lost their lives in 2014

PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix officials on Thursday hold a memorial ceremony honoring two city employees who lost their lives in 2014 in the course of their duties.

Police Detective John Hobbs was fatally wounded in March in a shootout in an intersection with a suspect in a previous shooting. The suspect also was killed in the shootout.

The other employee being honored is Paula Carroll, a human resources worker who was serious injured in a 1992 shooting in a city building. City officials say Carroll's injuries contributed to her death in September.
