The White House revealed Tuesday President Donald Trump will travel to Beijing for a two-day summit that begins on May 14 with Chinese President Xi Jinping. It will be the first of two planned meetings between the world leaders.

What's next:
Trump added that he and First Lady Melania Trump would welcome Xi and Chinese First Lady Peng Liyuan to Washington, D.C., for a reciprocal visit later this year. He did not indicate when that visit would happen.

The backstory:
Trump was originally scheduled to head to Beijing at the end of this month, but ended up postponing the conference. On March 16, he asked Chinese officials to delay it by "a month or so," saying, "We got a war going on. I think it’s important that I be here."
