US Postal Service issues new North American Soccer forever stamp

As the United States gets ready to host the FIFA World Cup, the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) is getting in on the excitement by issuing a North American Soccer stamp.

The stamp was unveiled Thursday at the 2026 Boston World Exposition as part of the stamp show’s sports theme day.

The backstory:

USPS art director Antonio Alcalá designed the stamp, drawing inspiration from soccer stamps from around and reviewing stock photography to see what images would appeal the most.  USPS says he settled on the player striking the ball in midair to capture the famous "gooooooooal" call started by announcers in Latin America before being popularized by Andrés Cantor during the 1990 World Cup.

The "gooooooooal" call is now heard around the world, from kids playing soccer on playgrounds to the FIFA World Cup final.

The North American Soccer stamp is issued in panes of 20 as forever stamps, meaning they will always be equal in value to the current First-Class Mail 1-ounce price.

What you can do:

The stamps can be purchased online at USPS, by calling 844-737-7826, by mail through USA Philatelic, or at Post Office locations nationwide.
