1-year-old dog abandoned with heartbreaking note

It was a heartbreaking note to read, and was probably nearly as hard to write: a dog was abandoned with a note tied around its neck, asking for help and a new home.

The dog, a 1-year-old mutt, is named Miah. She's full of life, and loves playing with other dogs, but she's now in the care of Maricopa County Animal Care and Control.

Miah was found in Avondale, tied up near a truck stop.

"In this case, it was particularly sad because this dog was found with a tag that explained her situation," said Melissa Gable with Maricopa County Animal Care and Control.

Miah had a hand written note connected to her collar that reads"

"Hello, my name is Miah. I am housebroken and homeless. Please help me. Thanks so much."

"She was someone's pet," said Gable. "She knows basic commands. She can sit she can shake. Very playful and friendly. She's only about a year old so she still very young

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control does charge a fee for surrendering a dog, but they are willing to waive it, depending on the situation.

"If you can't afford but you need to turn in your dog, please do come to us because we can work with you on it," said Gable. "We don't want to see the dogs left out in the heat."

Gable, who sees stray dogs come into the shelter day in and day out, said this case was particularly heartbreaking because Miah was obviously loved by someone, and that someone had to make the difficult decision to leave her.

"I don't know the circumstances behind why she was given up, but maybe that person is watching and it would probably mean a lot to them to know that a good family will come down and adopt her," said Gable

Miah will be available for adoption on July 5, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at their location in Phoenix.
