14-year-old boy critically hurt after being struck by car in Phoenix crosswalk

A teen is fighting for his life after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a Phoenix street.

What we know:

Phoenix Police responded to the crash near 35th Avenue and Dunlap Avenue at around 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 22. 

Witnesses said the male driver was traveling southbound on 35th Avenue in the curb lane when he hit the 14-year-old boy walking in the crosswalk. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Officials said the driver was not hurt and remained at the crash scene. The department's Vehicular Crimes Unit Drug Recognition Expert evaluated the driver, but found no signs of impairment. 

What we don't know:

The identities of the driver and victim were not released.
