Dolly Parton dies at 80
The backstory:
Parton died after a brief battle with cancer on August 25.
Her publicist confirmed with The Associated Press that she died peacefully in Nashville, Tennessee.
Parton was known for hits including "Jolene" and "9 to 5." She sold more than 100 million records worldwide and left behind an indelible mark on the music industry.
What’s more, Parton’s philanthropy will leave a lasting mark both in her home state of Tennessee, and the world.
Even in death, she focused on improving the lives of those who benefit from her charities, asking people to donate to her Imagination Library in lieu of sending flowers.
Parton will reportedly be laid to rest next to her husband, Carl Dean, at a Nashville mausoleum following a private service with only her immediate family.
