A couple in Canada has claimed a six-figure lottery win for the second time, lottery officials say.

Angelina and Edward Lado of St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador in northeastern Canada took home the top prize of $675,000 in the Atlantic Lottery’s $4 scratch-and-win "Set for Life" game.

What they're saying:

Edward Lado said he thought his wife was bluffing when she told him, according to the lottery’s website.

"I really couldn’t believe it," he told lottery officials. "I told her to calm down and when I come home, we will see if it is for real."

It turns out the prize was real. The Lados had two options: to either take $1,000 per week for the next 25 years or a lump-sum payment of $675,000, equivalent to just over $475,000 in American money.

The couple chose the lump-sum payment.

The backstory:

But the latest win pales in comparison to the $2.5 million prize they won in 2018 playing a scratch-and-win ticket.

"We play modestly, especially now, but if you don’t play, you don’t win," he said.

The couple told the Atlantic Lottery they plan to help their children who are in college pay for their education and give them a headstart in life.

"We will think about anything else along the way but for now we are just digesting the moment and letting it sink in," he said.

Officials say five top prizes are still unclaimed in the game.
