Cement truck rollover crash snarls traffic on Loop 101
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Just after 8 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the Loop 101, an eight-vehicle crash involving a cement truck happened just south of the McDonald exit.
The cement truck was sitting on its side and dumped enough cement to cover two-and-a-half yards of freeway. A special kind of tow truck had to make its way to the scene to get the heavy-duty vehicle upright again.
The clean up and investigation process happened in the heart of rush hour. Crews were finally able to get the cement truck back on its wheel, but still, thousands of people were forced to wait in the backup that went on for miles.
A FOX 10 viewer driving through the mess posted video of it to our Facebook page. One-hundred-and-one commuters had to either wait or exit before McDonald while investigators tried to assess the situation as thoroughly and quickly.
The northbound lanes of the Loop 101 were reopened just before 11 a.m.
