Dog who was bit by rattlesnake to save owner awarded Dog of the Year

PHOENIX, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Todd, a Golden Retriever who saved his owner from being bit by a rattlesnake earlier this year, was recognized at this year's Streamy Awards.

Todd was awarded the Milk-Bone Dog of the Year Honor at the 8th annual Streamy Awards. This was the first year this award was handed out. Olympic silver medalist and freestyle skier, Gus Kenworthy, presented the award to Todd and his owner Paula Godwin.

Todd and two other finalists were nominated for their accomplishments.

According to the Streamy Award's website, "Dogs do more for us every day, so why aren't they honored in the same way that humans are? Milk-Bone believes it's time to change that. For the first-time ever the Streamys, which historically only honors humans and their accomplishments, will award one dog who has done more with the Milk-Bone Dog of the Year honor."

Over the summer, Godwin was hiking in Anthem with Todd when she almost stepped on a rattlesnake, but the dog jumped in front of her leg getting bit in the face.

The Streamy Awards honors the best in online video and the creators behind it, according to their website.
