TEMPE, Ariz. (KSAZ) - We're 19 days into our FOX 10 food drive for St. Vincent de Paul and on Tuesday, the organization got a big donation from one of our partners.
It's an exciting morning at this Safeway in Tempe.
"I think there's 1,500 cans in this one load," one person said.
It's all from employees of Earnhardt dealerships, and Arizona Cardinals cheerleaders and Big Red are helping load it all up!
FOX 10 is teaming up with Safeway and Albertsons to collect as much food as possible for St. Vincent de Paul.
Julie works with the organization and says this drive has a huge impact on thousands of families.
"There are times when even this helps pay rent because suddenly they're getting the food from us and they have more money for utilities or for rent, so it actually helps people from being homeless," she said.
Life changing, that's the kind of change we're all hoping this drive can cause, and Safeway and Albertsons make it all so easy.
"We have bags when you enter every Albertsons or Safeway location and inside those bags are those shelf stable items that they need through the holiday season," one person said.
The bags are $10 and can make a huge difference because despite this big donation day, we still have 12 days to go.
The food drive ends on the last day of December. Every Safeway and Albertsons locations in the Valley are participating.
