Girl Scouts create gifts for NICU babies on World Prematurity Awareness Day

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (KSAZ) - A group of local Girl Scouts is giving back and spreading awareness on World Prematurity Day.

The girls raised $320 to create 114 NICU Grad baby onesies for patients at Honor Health's Scottsdale Shea campus.

The group received a tour of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and got to surprise parents with the gifts.

One scout, Ella Day who is now 10-years-old, was born at the same hospital at just 29 weeks.

This project was an effort to bring awareness to World Prematurity Day, November 17, as well as March of Dimes. November is also Prematurity Awareness month. The project was part of March of Dimes Family council.

Statistics show one in ten babies are born too soon every year.
