A fire swept through a mini-zoo and children's play center in Hertfordshire, England, early Wednesday, June 10, killing all the animals housed inside, according to officials.

The Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews were called to The Jungle Box in Buntingford at 3:19 a.m. Firefighters from the Buntingford and Ware stations responded and "worked hard to stop the fire spreading to other units on the site."

Providing an update Wednesday afternoon, Assistant Chief Fire Officer Darren Cook said: "Sadly, we can confirm that a number of animals were inside the building at the time of the fire and did not survive. An investigation into the cause of the fire is now underway."
