Judge to decide whether expelled lawmaker can run
PHOENIX (AP) - A Maricopa County judge says she'll decide tomorrow whether a former Yuma lawmaker expelled from the state House of Representatives after sexual harassment allegations can run for state Senate.
Don Shooter is running in the same district he was kicked out of. Another Republican candidate, Brent Backus, filed a lawsuit saying Shooter couldn't run because he lives in Phoenix, not Yuma.
Shooter testified on Thursday that he still lives in Yuma. He said he stayed with his wife at her house in Phoenix during legislative sessions.
Backus' attorney argued Shooter's voter registration was switched to the Phoenix address for two weeks. Shooter said he didn't make the switch and changed it back to Yuma as soon as he found out.
Judge Rosa Mroz said she'll release a decision tomorrow morning.
