Man arrested after teen dies in overnight crash

Police say a man has been arrested after a teenager was killed in a crash in north Phoenix overnight on Sunday.

A spokesperson for Phoenix Police says 19-year-old Salvador Diaz was driving a Honda civic was heading south on Cave Creek Road when he crashed into several parked cars. The front passenger, 19-year-old Jose Perez, was thrown from the vehicle.

Perez was transported to a local hospital where he died of his injuries. Police say Diaz was driving the car at an excessive rate or speed and showed signs of alcohol impairment.

Diaz was arrested and booked on one count of manslaughter.

The investigation is ongoing.
