MCSO: 89-year-old woman dies in house fire possibly caused by lightning
SUN CITY, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Authorities say an 89-year-old woman died in a house fire that may have been caused by a lightning strike.
According to Sgt. Joaquin Enriquez with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, deputies arrived at the Sun City home near 108th Drive and Thunderbird Boulevard just before 9 p.m. on Monday night and found that it was fully engulfed in flames.
As firefighters were working to extinguish the fire, an 89-year-old woman was found unresponsive inside the master bedroom.
She was taken to a nearby hospital where she later died.
MCSO detectives believe the fire was caused by a lightning strike. Monsoon storms brought powerful winds, rain, and blowing dust to the Valley on Monday.
