Mental health clinic opens as at Prescott VA Hospital

PHOENIX (AP) - The Northern Arizona Veterans Affairs Hospital has opened a new wing at its Prescott campus to help veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder and substance abuse issues.

The new mental health clinic and rehabilitation center opened Monday and has served about 50 patients. The facility opens as VA hospitals around the country continue to face criticism over wait times and access to care.

Officials say the new clinic will help improve mental health services and increase access to care. The new 18,000 square-foot facility that opened a month ahead of schedule includes 76 rooms and 74 parking spaces. The clinic will offer telemedicine services and accommodate new programs for veterans with PTSD and substance abuse issues.

A ribbon cutting ceremony is set to be held Thursday afternoon.
