Mesa police: All officers OK following officer-involved shooting
MESA, Ariz. (KSAZ) - All officers are OK following an officer-involved shooting in Mesa Wednesday morning.
According to Nik Rasheta with Mesa Police, officers were dispatched, at approximately 11:20 a.m., to a family fight in progress at the 500 block of Standage, where an adult female way saying a known adult male, identified as 67-year-old Michael Ferrell, was trying to kill her, and said he had a weapon.
When officers arrived, they reportedly saw Ferrell in the backyard, with a gun in his waistband. Officers, according to the statement, attempted to give him verbal commands to get rid of the gun.
Ferrell, according to Rasheta, left the backyard, and said he wanted to be shot. At that time, the suspect had his hand on the gun, and refused commands to put his hand up. After a few minutes of verbal commands for Ferrell to put his hand up, officers perceived a threat, and shots were fired.
The man was taken to the hospital where he later died.
