Military couple surprised with cool gift by air conditioning company

MESA, Ariz. (KSAZ) -- Every year, a local air conditioning company gives away a new air conditioner to a veteran, and on Thursday, they selected the winner and surprised him at his home.

Aubrey Koehler nominated her veteran husband for the annual "Military Hero AC Giveaway". After two weeks, her husband was declared the winner.

Dozens of nominations were submitted this year, but at the end, it was Aubrey and her husband, Jeremy Koehler, who received the most votes. The surprise couldn't have came at a better time, for in October, Aubrey was searching on online for a new AC, after the main one broke down.

When she came across the contest on Facebook, she nominated her veteran husband.

The goal for Forrest Anderson Plumbing and Air Conditioning is to honor the men and women in the community who served our country.

"It's been so rewarding to be able to give back to the veterans, and we got to meet a lot of nice great people through this process," said Audrey Monell, President of Forrest Anderson Plumbing and Air Conditioning.

"When she told us about is entering the contest, I wasn't expecting anything that all really, but it's amazing," said Jeremy Koehler. "It's been a blessing, especially from the support we got from friends and family to vote for us on the Facebook contest. Like it said, it's overwhelming."

Both Aubrey and Jeremy served in the military. Aubrey was in the air force, while Jeremy was in the Army for six years. The surprise on Thursday even brought tears to Vietnam veteran Dennis Correll. Correll, who works with Forrest Anderson, is proud to give back to the community.

"I was in the service when it wasn't appreciated," said Correll. "Homecoming weren't pleasant, so to see people reach out and appreciate our vets today is heartfelt."

The Forrest Anderson team say it will take a couple of weeks get the air conditioning installed.
