No charges in Buckeye boy's accidental shooting

BUCKEYE, Ariz. (AP) - Buckeye police are not pursuing any charges in the case of a 7-year-old boy who accidentally shot his 7-year-old friend in the head.

Police said Thursday that no criminal charges are being sought in last month's shooting inside a home.

Authorities say both boys were at the victim's home April 13 when they found a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun in a closet.

According to investigators, the victim's friend held the gun and accidentally fired it. The bullet grazed the top of the victim's skull.

The injured boy was flown to Phoenix Children's Hospital.

Police say he is still recovering but doing well.

The families of both children have asked to remain private.

Police say the incident is a reminder that gun owners should store firearms in a secure place.
