North Phoenix home goes up in flames overnight

A family escaped injury after their north Phoenix home went up in flames overnight.

The Phoenix Fire Department says the fire broke out just after midnight at the home near the Loop 101 and Seventh Avenue.

A grandfather and his two teenage grandkids were asleep inside the home when the fire started. One of the teens woke up and noticed the back of the home was on fire.

A neighbor came to home, pounded on the front door and got the family out safe.

The house sustained heavy damage due to the fire, causing the roof to collapse.

The family's dog, Candy, went missing after the fire broke out but returned safely after she was spotted walking back into the home!

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
