Paralyzed pup gets wheels, but needs home

A bay area dog left on the doorstep of the Humane Society of Tampa Bay is getting a new set of wheels.

The anonymous person who left her- in her crate with a note for the staff members- begged the nonprofit to help Genie.

The dog was suffering from paralysis, and in the note, her former owner said Genie likely needed a costly surgery to get better.

So the Humane Society took her in, and vets have since learned that Genie has a herniated disc in her lumbar spine that's causing her paralysis, and the prognosis for a successful surgery is extremely poor.

After careful consideration, specialists say instead of surgery, they ordered a set of customized wheels very similar to a wheelchair to help Genie get around.

The wheels and her care thus far have been expensive, but The Humane Society of Tampa Bay says some of the $21,000 they raised on 'Give Day Tampa Bay' will cover the costs.

The vet says she'll live a happy life, but there's still one obstacle in the way: She needs to find a forever home.

The Humane Society of Tampa Bay asks anyone interested adopting and caring for this special needs dog to contact the adoption manager at the Human Society of Tampa Bay (813) 876-7138.

They expect her to be ready to go to a loving home in about a week.
