Phoenix police: 16-year-old boy shot dead in friend's home

PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police are trying to piece together circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy at a friend's home.

Sgt. Jonathan Howard says police responding to a call about a shooting late Wednesday found the critically wounded boy, who later died at a hospital.

Howard says detectives have determined that a group of teens were at the home when the shooting occurred and that the others ran off when the boy was shot.

He says police have spoken with a 15-year-old girl who lives at the home but want to speak with others who were present to determine how and why the shooting occurred.

The boy's name was not released, and Howard says nobody has been arrested in the case.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Phoenix Police or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
