Phoenix police seek suspect who pistol-whipped clerk

PHOENIX (AP) -- Phoenix police are searching for a suspect who allegedly pistol-whipped a convenience store clerk.

Police said Saturday that investigators have not identified the suspect in the Feb. 11 attempted robbery at an AM/PM Market near 16th Street and Bell Road.

Surveillance video shows the suspect pretending to buy cigarettes but then pulling out a handgun.

Police say the suspect demanded money and hit the clerk on the head with a gun when she did not immediately open the register.

The impact sent the clerk to the ground.

But police say the clerk was able to run out of the store.

The suspect fled without any money.

Police are asking anyone who may have information come forward.
