Phoenix police: Suspect dead following officer-involved shooting

Phoenix Police officials say a suspect is dead, following an officer-involved shooting on Tuesday.

According to Sgt. Mercedes Fortune with the Phoenix Police Department, the shooting happened near Central and Osborn, where police say they received a 911 call about a suspect trespassing at an extended stay hotel.

Officers tried to taze the suspect twice, but they say it had no effect on him. Officers were able to place one of the suspect's arms in handcuffs, but hw was able to run away, heading east on Osborn. Officers were later able to catch up to him, near a drug store on central, where another struggle ensued.

"The suspect again raised his arm, holding the weapon, the open-ended single strand of a handcuff towards the officer," said Lt. Mark Tovar with Phoenix Police. "The officer then discharged his service weapon, striking the suspect."

No officers were injured in the shooting.
