Phoenix Police: Suspect dead, three DPS troopers injured following shooting on I-17

PHOENIX (KSAZ) -- Phoenix Police officials said Monday night that a suspect is dead, following a shooting involving multiple law enforcement agencies on the I-17.

According to a statement released by Sergeant Vince Lewis, DPS troopers and Mesa Police officers were involved in the shooting, which took place at around 5:00 p.m. on northbound I-17 near 7th Street. The suspect was driving a white pickup truck, and was the only person in the vehicle. Officials have yet to release the suspect's identity.

In dashcam video obtained by FOX 10, gunshots can be heard from the vantage point of a vehicle that was near the incident scene on I-17.

Sgt. Lewis also said that three DPS troopers suffered non-life threatening injuries, and two of them were taken to the hospital.

Meanwhile, Sgt. Lewis said Phoenix Police will take the lead on the criminal investigation.

I-17 was reopened in both directions from the I-10 Split to Seventh Avenue late Tuesday morning.
