Phoenix woman killed in hit and run
PHOENIX, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Officials with the Phoenix Police Department say a woman was hit and killed by a vehicle in Phoenix Friday while trying to cross the street.
Officers said at 5:44 Friday morning Rhonda Wakefield, 67, was attempting to cross 43rd Avenue south of Glendale Avenue when she was hit by a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier. Wakefield was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to officials, the 66-year-old woman who was driving the car did not stop. She was later reported to police by family members who believed she was involved.
Officers responded to the woman's home to recover her vehicle and obtain evidence, which linked the woman to the accident.
Charges against the woman are pending.
