Police: 3-year-old stuck by car at south Phoenix parking lot

PHOENIX (KSAZ) -- Phoenix police say a 3-year-old child is critically injured after being struck by a car in a parking lot on Thursday night.

According to Sgt. Mercedes Fortune, the incident happened along the 500 block of E. Baseline Road, and officers were called out to the scene at around 7:40 p.m. for reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a car. Witnesses told officers that a three-year-old child ran into the parking lot when the car struck him.

The driver, according to police, remained at the scene, and impairment does not appear to be a factor at this time. An investigation is ongoing.
