The woman, 34-year-old Chau Duncan, had allegedly threatened several other people the day before the incident, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Woman allegedly pointed firearm at officers

Dig deeper:

On Oct. 11, 2026, officers were dispatched after a call came in saying a woman wearing a purple sweatsuit had pointed a gun at a man. The woman was identified as Duncan.

When officers arrived to the scene, Duncan could be heard screaming for them to "get off" her as she continued to walk away.

Officers could be heard telling Duncan several times to stop walking away and to show them her hands.

After several minutes of following Duncan, an officer who was following inside a police cruiser exited the vehicle and opened the driver’s side door. Several officers who were walking alongside the vehicle started to get closer to Duncan when she shot into the opened driver’s side door.

Officers returned fire and Duncan was hit.

Duncan was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
