Police: WNBA's Griner, fiancée Glory Johnson arrested

One of the brightest stars on the Phoenix Mercury was arrested in a scuffle with her fiancee.

Brittany Griner plays Center for the WNBA champs, but yesterday she was hauled off to jail by Goodyear Police after a verbal argument turned physical.

Griner told police she had been frequently arguing with Glory Johnson in recent days. The couple had been planning a wedding and moved into a new home in Goodyear.

It's a stressful time and angry words boiled over into violence.

Both Griner and Johnson play in the WNBA. Johnson plays for the Tulsa Shock.

Goodyear Police got a call around 4:30 p.m. for a report of the two fighting. The call came from Glory's sister who was staying with the couple.

The sister said the two were throwing things at each other in the living room, then tangled on the floor.

Police arrived to find the fight largely over, both Griner and Johnson said things got out of hand.

Authorities consider it a domestic violence incident with both partners fighting.

Neither suffered major injuries, mostly cuts and bruises.

Griner and Johnson were booked for disorderly conduct and assault into the 4th Avenue Jail. A judge released them on bond a short time later.

Goodyear Police say they take every case like this seriously.

"I think it is really important to talk about domestic violence, it crosses all lines, there are no boundaries. Help and resources are available for those in a situation like that and need help," said Lisa Ktusi with the Goodyear Police Department.

FOX 10 tried to speak with Griner and Johnson but nobody answered at their residence.
