Police in Germany are investigating an incident where a 16-year-old girl was groped by a robot, who police believe was being controlled by two boys who livestreamed the incident.

What we know:

Police in the western city of Cologne said the incident happened Sunday night at a fast-food restaurant. They say just before midnight the girl was out with two of her friends when she was approached by a nearly 4-foot robot from behind.

Police say the robot touched the girl’s buttocks and performed thrusting movements against her while the 16-year-old owner of the robot and his 19-year-old friend took video of the whole thing, streaming it on social media.

Police responded a short time later and found the robot in the truck of a vehicle belonging to one of the teens.

Big picture view:

At this time, the boys have not been changed, but are considered suspects. Their phones were confiscated and investigators are trying to determine if the robots' movements were programmed or controlled in real time.
