Teen in critical condition following shooting in West Valley

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - A 14-year-old reportedly suffered serious injuries, following a shooting in the area of 99th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road.

According to Phoenix Fire officials, the victim is in critical condition. According to a statement issued by Phoenix Police, the victim had a significant leg injury. Officers reportedly provided first aid, and attempted to interview the juvenile, but he was uncooperative.

According to Phoenix Police, the injury may have been accidental or self-inflicted.

"It's nerving that one of your friends got shot," said Nicolas Sammaritho, a friend of the victim. "I wouldn't have thought him."

"Can't believe that it happened to him," said Sammaritho. "I wouldn't think that it would happen to my best friend. I'd do anything for him"
