Town near Grand Canyon gets new leadership

FLAGSTAFF - FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) -- A tiny town outside the Grand Canyon that has big plans for development will be under new leadership in 2016.

The mayor of Tusayan, Greg Bryan, is resigning Dec. 31. He says he wants to spend more time with family.

The town's vice mayor, Craig Sanderson, will take over the leadership role until a fall election when residents will elect their mayor directly for the first time. Until now, the Town Council chose from among its members.

Everyone who drives to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon passes through Tusayan, about 2miles from the entrance gates. It was incorporated in 2010 as Arizona's smallest town.

Development plans there call for high-end boutiques, five-star hotels, a high-density shopping center and hundreds of homes.
