Netflix announced Monday that the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback and award-winning filmmaker Ava DuVernay have teamed up to create a series about his life.
The reopenings will take place in four phases, starting with a handful of theaters in Dallas on June 19. The remaining reopenings will be conducted between July 3 and July 17, and will include “enhanced cleaning and sanitizing protocols,” the company said.
The couple is giving $40 million to each of three institutions: the United Negro College Fund, Spelman College and Morehouse College. The organizations said it is the largest individual gift in support of student scholarships at HBCUs.
