2-year-old girl drowns in Mesa swimming pool

MESA, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Officials with Mesa police said a 2-year-old is dead after she was found face down in a swimming pool.

Police say 2-year-old Aria Herrera died after she was found face down in the pool by her foster father after about 10 minutes of not being seen by any family member.

Investigators believe a mesh fence that surrounded the pool may have been compromised by the family's puppy, allowing Aria to follow the puppy into the pool area.

The investigation is ongoing and no criminal charges are pending at this time.
