The application portal is now open for school bands, choirs, and holiday-themed entertainers to perform during the holiday open houses at the White House during the month of December. Volunteers are also needed to help decorate the White House for the holidays.

Performers and musical groups, including school bands, choirs, and holiday-themed entertainers are encouraged to apply here.

The White House says all applicants must be United States citizens and performers must be available to be in Washington, D.C. for the shifts they are assigned.  Volunteers are responsible for their individual travel, accommodations, and personal expenses.  The White House will provide snacks.

Volunteer decorators must be available to work in Washington, D.C., for the entirety of the shift(s) selected. Volunteers should expect to be available from approximately 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day. There will be no decorating activities on Thanksgiving Day.  Christmas decorator volunteers can apply here.

The volunteer shift schedules are:

  • Shift 1: Monday, Nov. 23–Wednesday, Nov. 25
  • Shift 2: Friday, Nov. 27–Sunday, Nov. 29
  • Full Week Monday, Nov. 23–Sunday, Nov. 29

The White House says a portion of volunteer duties during Shift 1 will take place at an off-site facility and all volunteer duties require physical activity, including heavy lifting, working on ladders, and standing for extended periods. While applicants may indicate a preferred shift, the White House says placement is not guaranteed.

Applicants who are conditionally selected to be volunteers will be required to submit additional information for a background investigation and other security measures and final acceptance to be a volunteer is contingent upon the successful processing of a background investigation.

All applications must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. ET on Friday, August 28, 2026. Applicants selected to serve as volunteer decorators will be notified via the email address provided by 5:00 PM ET on Friday, October 2, 2026.
