ASU students whitewash 'A' Mountain on 80th anniversary

TEMPE, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Thousands of ASU students gathered this morning to show school spirit by taking part in the annual tradition of whitewashing "A" Mountain.

This year is hitting even closer to the hearts of Sun Devils, marking the 80th anniversary of "A" Mountain.

The occasional teacher, alumni or upperclassman were spotted, but the majority were freshmen.

"It's our first year," said freshman Takela King. "We wanted to be a part of something."

Students are armed with a cup of white paint, and aren't afraid to get their hands dirty. Even though, the paint will wash off, the memories won't fade.

The "A" will be painted the Sun Devil gold color before the first football game of the season.
