As fans around the world mourn Dolly Parton’s death, many are revisiting the country icon’s brief but memorable cameo on FOX’s "The Simpsons."
The country music icon died Tuesday at the age of 80 years old following a career spanning nearly 60 years.

Parton guest-starred as herself in a Season 10 episode "Sunday, Cruddy Sunday," which originally aired Jan. 31, 1999, following Super Bowl XXXIII.
The episode follows Homer Simpson and his friends as they travel to the Super Bowl, only to end up locked in a stadium jail after trying to sneak inside. Parton eventually walks past their cell and helps them escape using her powerful makeup remover to dissolve the lock.

While Parton’s appearance was brief, her larger-than-life personality made the cameo one of the episode’s most memorable moments. It also aired directly after the Super Bowl, making it one of the show's biggest broadcast showcases of the season.
The episode was also packed with other celebrity appearances, including football legends John Madden, Pat Summerall, Troy Aikman and Dan Marino.

The Backstory: Best known for a country music career that made her one of the most recognizable performers in the world, Parton’s influence reached far beyond music. She also built a successful career as an actress and businesswoman while becoming widely known for her philanthropic work.
Parton was known for acting in other movie and television roles including, "9 to 5," "Rhinestone" and "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas."

One of Parton’s most memorable roles came in the 1989 film "Steel Magnolias," where she starred alongside Sally Field, Shirley MacLaine, Daryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis and Julia Roberts. The film followed a close-knit group of women in a small Southern town as they navigated friendship, family and the devastating loss of one of their own.
"I never thought of myself as a movie star," she told the Associated Press’s Bob Thomas in 1979. "I knew I'd be a star, but as a singer or as a writer of songs or books or poetry. I wanted to be a famous performer and wear flashy clothes, but singing in movies was not one of my ambitions. My family lived in the mountains and we didn't see movies."

Her love affair with TV and film continued for decades, with appearances alongside Miley Cyrus on "Hannah Montana" and adaptations of her music for Christmas specials, films and streaming series.
