Emergency C-section for pregnant woman after car crash

A pregnant woman who was involved in a car crash overnight is in extremely critical condition on Saturday, and her newborn is listed in critical condition.

Phoenix Police say the crash happened at 49th Avenue and Thomas at about 11 p.m., on Friday night.

They say the driver a 2004 Cadillac was heading west on Thomas and lost control, crashing into an on-coming 2011 Kia. An SUV then collided with the Kia.

A woman, who is 32-weeks pregnant, was a passenger in the Kia. She was rushed to the hospital in extremely critical condition. Her newborn child is in extremely critical condition.

A 2-year-old child who was restrained the back of the Kia was taken to the hospital as a precaution, but is expected to be fine.

Police say the 19-year-old driver of the Cadillac was taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition.

The 25-year-old driver of the Kia was also taken to the hospital and is in serious but stable condition.

There is no indication that any of the drivers were impaired. Phoenix police detectives suspect that speed or distraction may have been factors in the collisions.
