Female passenger in pursuit released from hospital; Suspect posted bail and released

It was the pursuit seen all across southern California Wednesday night as a domestic violence suspect was chased by police in a Honda Accord with his girlfriend as a passenger, unable to escape. The wild chase ended at a 99 Cents Only Store in Rowland Heights Wednesday night when the suspect, 29-year-old Alexis Avina ran inside. Within seconds, panicked shoppers ran out of the store while officers with weapons drawn went inside, found him, and hauled him away in handcuffs.

When that chase ended, many people wondered what happened to the woman passenger. That woman was released from the hospital later that night with only external injuries, but at this time police don't know where she is, and fearing for her safety they'd really like to speak with her.

As for the suspect, Avina was an ex-felon on post-release community supervision in Orange County since 2017 under AB 109. And despite his criminal background, he was able to post his $125,000 bail and walk free Friday morning. Police tell FOX 11 that the Orange County Probation Office has filed a warrant for his arrest for violating the terms of his probation.

Avina is facing felony, evading, and domestic violence charges. His arraignment is set for May 17 in Downey, California.
