Homemade explosive device found inside car in Chandler

CHANDLER, Ariz. (FOX 10) - According to Chandler police, a homemade explosive device was found in a car after officers stopped the vehicle for a traffic offense last weekend.

Police say the vehicle was stopped near Cooper and Riggs Roads in Chandler on January 19 at 6:30 p.m.

During the traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle, officers found suspected explosive material inside the trunk.

The passenger inside the vehicle, identified as 53-year-old Ralph Ruegsegger, told police the explosive material was homemade. He was arrested and booked into jail on charges of misconduct involving weapons.

The driver of the vehicle, 39-year-old Levi Taner Hetzel, was arrested for an outstanding warrant out of Scottsdale.

Police say the device was removed from the vehicle and destroyed in a near by empty field.
