House fire claims the life of blind, elderly woman

An elderly woman, who is reportedly blind, has died after a fire broke out inside her Glendale home late Tuesday night.

The Glendale Fire Department tells Fox 10 that firefighters responded to the fire after seeing a large column of smoke near 58th Avenue and Ocotillo. Upon arriving at the scene, crews discovered a small house fire.

Neighbors at the scene told firefighters that 62-year-old Eva Cedillo lived inside the home and was blind. She was pulled from the home and immediately transported to the Maricopa Burn Unit, where she later died.

Firefighters encountered intense heat and zero visibility once inside the home and the house was difficult to navigate, due to a large amount of personal belongings and reinforced doors and fencing.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
