Iran war latest: 1 service member still missing; Trump asks for $1.5 trillion defense budget
The war against Iran enters its 36th day Saturday as crews search for a missing service member whose fighter jet was shot down inside Iran. It was one of two U.S. military planes to go down in combat against Iran Friday.
The planes went down just two days after President Donald Trump said in a national address that the U.S. has "beaten and completely decimated Iran" and was "going to finish the job, and we’re going to finish it very fast."
Trump, meanwhile, is asking Congress to boost defense spending to $1.5 trillion, the largest such request in decades.

Thousands of U.S. service members have been sent to the Middle East and 13 have been killed since the war began.

More than 1,900 people have been killed in Iran, while 19 have been reported dead in Israel.
More than two dozen people have died in Gulf states and the occupied West Bank. More than 1,300 people have been killed in Lebanon, in addition to 10 Israeli soldiers.

Nuclear plant attacks will ‘end life’ in Gulf cities, Iran says
8:21 a.m. ET: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi posted on social media on Saturday that radioactive fallout from further attacks on the Bushehr nuclear power plant would have disastrous repercussions in regional capitals, not Tehran.
U.S. jet shot down by Iran: One crew member rescued
On Friday, U.S. forces started to search for an American airman who bailed out of a fighter jet over Iran during the first shoot-down of a U.S. warplane by Tehran in five weeks of war, officials said. Araghchi accused Western governments of remaining silent regarding repeated attacks on the Bushehr plant, located some 465 miles south of Iran’s capital.
The facility uses low-enriched uranium from Russia, along with Russian technicians, to supply about 1,000 megawatts of power for Iran.
