Major power outage reported across Phoenix and neighboring cities

In a day where a record high was set in Phoenix, widespread power outages were reported across parts of the Valley Friday evening.

According to SRP, nearly 10,000 customers were without power in the East Valley at one point. In addition, APS officials said 3,000 people were without power at one point, but that has since been lowered to 500, as of Friday night.

It is not clear if the afternoon storms, or the heat, were the reason for the outage.
