Man arrested in connection to Mesa homicide
MESA, Ariz. (KSAZ) - UPDATE: On Saturday, June 17, police announced the arrest of Arturo Perez, 22, in connection with the murder of a woman in Mesa.
Mesa police say the victim who was killed has been identified as Unique Auilera, 19. Police say the second victim, identified as 22-year-old Jesse Ibarra, is in critical condition after the shooting. He is the suspect's former roommate and Unique's boyfriend.
Investigators say it appears the shooting was the result of arguments and "girlfriend issues" between the Perez and Arturo. Arturo was booked for second-degree murder charges.
Mesa police say the body of a woman was found near Lindsay and Broadway Roads at around 2:00 a.m. Friday. Officers discovered the body while responding to reports of a shooting at the location.
The scene of the incident is an apartment complex, and police were called to the scene, after a resident at the apartment called about a shooting in a downstairs unit.
When police arrived, a young man was found shot and taken to a hospital. A woman, however, was found shot to death.
"I was shaken up last night, definitely," said one neighbor who did not want to be identified. "Watching police with their giant guns looking for someone, going door to door, but honestly, who would commit a crime and come back to it? That would just be silly."
Police did not release the victim's name, nor did they release a description of the possible suspect. Anyone with information should call Mesa police.
