2 men detained and released in connection to deadly Phoenix shooting

Two men were taken into custody and another man in a shooting late Tuesday night in a Phoenix neighborhood.

The shooting happened at around 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 21 near 21st Avenue and Bethany Home Road.

What we know:

A man is in custody after another man died after being found shot in an alley on Jan. 21 near 21st Avenue and Bethany Home Road.

Phoenix Police say officers responded to the scene and found a man in an alley who had been shot. 

He was taken to a hospital where he later died. Police identified the victim as a man in his early 30's.

Two men were detained after coming out of a home in the area, telling police they were involved in the shooting.

Detectives say one of the two men admitted to shooting the victim in fear for the safety of his relative after the man threw a rock at him.

What they're saying:

"Officers were able to locate and detain a man, on scene, believed to be involved in the shooting. Detectives are currently investigating," Sgt. Phil Krynsky said.

Both men were released from custody and are awaiting charges following the investigation.
