One wounded in shooting at Del Amo mall in Torrance

Torrance police swarmed Del Amo mall in the 3500 block of W. Carson Street Monday afternoon following a shooting at the mall.

The shooting was reported at about 2:56 p.m. Monday. Police are still searching for the gunman who got away. At least one person was injured.

Torrance police said arriving officers discovered one person inside the mall suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was treated at the scene and taken to a local hospital. That person is expected to survive, police said at Monday evening news briefing.

There are no other known victims at this time and authorities believe this was an isolated incident.

Aeria footage showed several groups of people running out of the mall. The mall was placed on lockdown.

Police say a preliminary investigation reveals the suspect may be a Hispanic man about 20-25 years old with a shaved head and wearing a black shirt and checkered shorts.

Nearby Madrona Middle School was placed on locked after the shooting.

Officers and SWAT are on scene clearing the area as detectives continue to investigate the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Torrence Police Department at 310-328-3456.
