Phoenix police investigate fatal collision involving a pedestrian

Police are investigating a crash where a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle near 36th Street and Thomas on Tuesday morning.

Authorities say the woman was crossing Thomas Road in or near the crosswalk when she was struck by an eastbound vehicle.

"The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital where she died of her injuries. The driver attempted to leave the area but was detained by police," stated Phoenix Police Sgt. Jonathan Howard.

Howard says driver impairment does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

No names have been released in this case.

The roadway was restricted due to the investigation.
