Police: babysitter accidentally fires gun, strikes 8-year-old in arm

An 8-year-old boy has been shot in the arm while sleeping early Tuesday morning. The boy was shot by his babysitter who said it was an accident.

Investigators learned that 39-year-old Mike Dickey was removing the .45 caliber pistol from his waistband while in the bathroom when it went off.

The bullet passed through the home and hit the boy in the left arm.

Paramedics rushed the boy to a local hospital, he was then airlifted to Phoenix Children's Hospital.

Police have not arrested Dickey, but have filed a report with the Pinal County Attorney's Office who will decide whether to prosecute.
