Police: Man faces arson charges in connection to Phoenix house fire

Police say a house fire in Phoenix is a case of arson and a suspect has been arrested.

Phoenix police say 35-year-old Quinton Grier has been arrested on arson and endangerment charges in connection to the fire, which broke out at a house on May 11 near 59th Avenue and Indian School Road.

A wheelchair-bound elderly man was inside the home at the time of the fire but managed to escape safely. Police say Grier, a family friend of the victim, was seen pouring what is believed to be lighter fluid next to the house and lighting it on fire.

Cameron Carter's family was inside the home at the time.

"My little cousin Alani was doing laundry," said Carter. "Heard noise, dogs barking and the next thing you know the house is in flames."

Carter said Grier, who is his uncle, got in an argument at the house with other family members. They called police and Grier was taken away. Grier, however, allegedly went back to the house alter, and police believe Grier set the house on fire, with the family inside.

The family was able to make it out, with the help of firefighters, but Carter said the house is gutted. Meanwhile, Grier was arrested in the area of 83rd Avenue and Indian School, and is now behind bars for alleged arson.
